2016年、Birger Dahl（ビルゲル・ダール）生誕100周年を記念し、時代を超えて愛されるペンダントライトがNorthern AS（ノーザン）により復刻され発売となりました。1958年に改装されたノルウェー国会議事堂にも採用されたDahl〈ダール〉は、ミッドセンチュリーのクラシックなデザインですが、そのミニマルなフォルムと滑らかで艶のない表面は今日でも現代的です。シェードは手吹きガラスで作られ、滑らかなつや消し仕上げの表面処理によってエッチングされています。ビルゲル・ダールによるデザインのDokka〈ドッカ〉とBirdy〈バーディ〉と同様に、控えめな特徴を持っています。

2016 marked the centenary of Birger Dahl’s birth, which Northern commemorated with the launch of this timeless glass pendant. Dahl designed the lamp in 1956 and installed it in the renovated Norwegian Parliament building two years later. Although Dahl is a classic mid-century design, its minimal form and smooth, unembellished surfaces still have a contemporary appearance today. The shade is made from mouth-blown glass and etched by a surface treatment that creates a smooth matt finish. Dahl’s metal parts are white, dark grey or made in matt brass. The shade attaches to a metal disc at the top and makes space for a pair of concentric rings to slot into the opening down below. The pendant has the same understated features that characterise Dokka and Birdy – two other classic Birger Dahl designs also re-introduced by Northern.

照明を中心に多くの作品を残しているBirger Dahl（ビルゲル・ダール）は、細かな分析に基づいた研ぎすまされた感覚で、明快かつ簡潔な表現を手がけています。1945年から、彼は現在のNIL(ノルウェー内装建築&家具協会)の中心的人物でした。45〜57年にかけてはオスロの電機メーカーSønnico（ソニコ）社のチーフデザイナーとして活動し、54年のミラノ・トリエンナーレでは、卓上ランプ〈S-30016〉にて金賞を受賞しています。同じく54年にデザインした代表作〈S-10053〉は、〈Dokka〉という名前でノーザン社が製造しています。
Birger Dahl was a versatile designer best known for his work with lamps. He had an analytical approach and a well-developed ability for simplification. Starting in 1945 he was instrumental in creating what is today the Norske interiørarkitekters og møbeldesigneres landsforening (Norwegian Interior Architects and Furniture Association, NIL). In the period 1945-57 he was chief designer for lighting manufacturer Sønnico in Oslo. Dahl designed the table lamp S-30016, which in 1954 won a gold medal at the Triennale di Milano. His best known work is the pendant lamp S-10053 from 1954, produced today by Northern, under the product name Dokka.
