Norwegian Icons is an initiative dedicated to telling the world about the best of Norwegian interior design from 1940 to 1975. The aim is to increase global awareness of Norway’s contribution to the Mid-Century Scandinavian design movement, as well as promote the work of contemporary Norwegian manufaktures. In recent years, Norwegian Icons has told the story of Norwegian design history through a series of exhibitions in Oslo, London, Milan, Tokyo and New York.
Norwegian Icons is introducing Norwegian design to the world. Norwegian contributions have long been unappreciated in the world of Scandinavian design. Fuglen, a Norwegian cafe and bar based in Oslo and Tokyo, set out to fix this by starting Norwegian Icons and putting on exhibitions focused on Norwegian Mid-Century design. With exhibitions in Oslo, Tokyo, and New York, Norwegian Icons succeeded in raising the profile of Norwegian design around the world.
In Japan, Norwegian Icons is now introducing reproduction vintage design furniture and lightings alongside new productions from up and coming talent. These productions are the new Norwegian icons, and we are excited to be a design archive where anyone in Japan can participate in Norwegian design history.
NORWEGIAN ICONS (ノルウェジアン アイコンズ)は、ノルウェーのオスロと東京を拠点とするFUGLENを母体とした、知られざるノルウェーデザインを発信するブランドです。
ミッドセンチュリー期を中心に、その時代のアイコンとなったノルウェーデザインを世界へ発信することを目的とした展覧会がその原点となっています。2013年にオスロから東京へ巡回、そして2014年にはニューヨークでの展覧会を開催。知名度の低かったノルウェーデザインに、大きな注目と関心を集めました。
日本国内においては現在、復刻版の家具や照明をご紹介しながら、ノルウェーのブランド約10社の輸入代理店を担っています。また、それらのプロダクトに加え、ヴィンテージアイテムや若手デザイナーの作品を取り扱うセレクトショップを運営しています。
ミッドセンチュリー期のデザインのみならず、ノルウェーの現代のデザイナーの作品も新たなる「ノルウェジアン アイコン」とし、ノルウェーデザインの初期から現代までを網羅するデザインアーカイブとして機能していくことを目指しています。
